She began formal piano lessons at age seven and later expanded her musical experience to include ukulele, guitar, percussion, and singing.

Taliya especially enjoys working with children between approximately ages 6 and 12. Her lessons combine the building blocks of music with practical playing so students can develop the skills needed to eventually explore the songs and styles that interest them most.

Taliya believes that understanding the fundamentals of music gives students more freedom in the long run. Rather than learning songs only through memorization, students can begin recognizing the musical structures that appear again and again.

Music theory becomes a practical tool in her lessons. Students can use what they learn to understand their favorite songs, combine melodies, experiment with sounds, and eventually begin writing music of their own.

She also uses different tools and instruments to support ear training, giving students opportunities to hear musical relationships instead of relying only on what they see on the page.

A Personalized Teaching Approach

Every student learns differently, and Taliya adjusts her approach based on the individual. Some students respond well to visual explanations, others learn more effectively by listening, and some need to experience a musical concept physically before it fully makes sense.

By adapting lessons to the student, she works to make learning more efficient while also helping students develop a genuine love for music.

Education & Musical Background

Taliya is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Montana, with interests that include adolescent psychology.

Her musical experience includes piano performance, accompanying singers and musicians in band and choir settings, and participation in theater. During high school, she also participated in adjudicated music performance and earned high marks for piano.
