Meet Theo Daley, Founder of In Home Music Mentor

Before In Home Music Mentor existed, I spent six years running one of the most successful SAT prep programs on the West Coast. I designed the entire curriculum, managed a team of teachers, and spoke to hundreds of families at PTA meetings from Portland to San Diego. I saw firsthand what focused, structured learning could do for a student’s confidence.

But I kept noticing something was missing. The kids who retained the most were not the ones being drilled. They were the ones who felt something.

That gap led me to music. In 2015, I walked door to door in my neighborhood talking to families about the benefits of music education. Not lessons as a checkbox. Music as a language of expression, creativity, and connection. Before long I was hiring
teachers, running after-school programs, and watching something quiet and powerful take root in living rooms across the city.

Word spread the way good things do: family to family, teacher to teacher. Today, In Home Music Mentor operates in more than 25 cities, with a network of educators who share one belief — that music retention starts not with technique, but with how a student feels in the room.

Every teacher I bring on is personally interviewed, background checked, and trained in an approach that puts expression first and pressure last. Because I have seen what happens when a child stops dreading practice and starts reaching for their instrument on their own.

That is why we do it.
