Why We Recommend Amanda for Music Lessons in Madison

Amanda Campana is a classically trained pianist and encouraging music teacher who has been playing piano since approximately 2004. With a musical background spanning classical repertoire, contemporary interests, guitar, bass, and drums, she brings both a strong technical foundation and an open-minded approach to each lesson.

Her primary instrument is piano, and she is comfortable teaching students across different ages and experience levels. She also offers beginner guitar lessons for students who are just beginning to explore the instrument.

Amanda’s ideal student is simply someone who is excited to learn music. Whether that means a young beginner discovering the piano for the first time, a teenager interested in developing stronger musical skills, or an adult finally making time to learn an instrument, Amanda works to create a collaborative environment where curiosity is encouraged.

Areas of Expertise & Teaching Focus

  • Piano Lessons: Classical technique, reading, rhythm, musicality, repertoire, and building a strong foundation for continued growth.
  • Beginner Guitar: Helping new guitar students become comfortable with the instrument while developing foundational technique and musical understanding.
  • Classical Piano: Drawing from years of formal private instruction and advanced classical piano study.
  • Music Reading: Helping students become increasingly comfortable understanding written music and applying it at the instrument.
  • Technique & Practice Skills: Teaching students how patience, consistency, and thoughtful practice can lead to meaningful musical progress.
  • Musical Exploration: Encouraging students to discuss and explore the genres, songs, and musical ideas that interest them personally.
  • Confidence & Creativity: Helping students develop the confidence to express themselves through music rather than focusing only on technical achievement.

Advanced Classical Piano Training

Amanda began classical piano training at a young age and studied through a number of private piano studios and instructors throughout her musical development.

Her formal piano education included participation in the Music Teachers’ Association of California Certificate of Merit program, which she completed through the Advanced level.

Amanda also progressed through seven volumes of the Suzuki piano series, giving her experience with a structured approach to developing technique, listening skills, repertoire, and musicianship.

This extensive classical foundation gives Amanda the ability to provide students with clear musical structure while still allowing lessons to develop around their individual interests.

More Than Just Classical Music

Although classical piano formed the foundation of Amanda’s musical education, her interests eventually expanded into a variety of genres and instruments.

She began playing guitar around 2016 through a combination of high school coursework and independent study. She later explored bass beginning around 2020 and drums around 2023.

Having experience across several instruments gives Amanda a broader understanding of how rhythm, harmony, melody, and different musical roles fit together. It also makes her especially interested in learning what kinds of music each student enjoys.

Teaching Philosophy: Passion, Potential & Purpose

Amanda sees her role as a teacher as nurturing and guiding each student’s passion, potential, and purpose for learning.

Collaboration and fun are central to that process. Rather than making lessons feel like a one-sided set of instructions, Amanda wants students to participate in their musical development, share what interests them, ask questions, and discover what motivates them to continue learning.

Music became an important form of human connection for Amanda while she was growing up, and that experience continues to shape the way she approaches teaching.

Years of practicing piano also taught her lessons that extend beyond music, including discipline, patience, creativity, and the value of steadily working toward a goal. She hopes to help students develop those same qualities while still remembering that making music should be enjoyable.

A Great Fit for Beginners of Any Age

Because Amanda enjoys working with students of any age, families and adult learners can feel comfortable beginning lessons even without previous musical experience.

For younger students, lessons can provide the technical foundation and practice habits needed for continued musical development. Teenagers can explore their own musical interests while strengthening their musicianship, and adults can learn at a pace that fits their goals and experience.

Above all, Amanda wants students to leave lessons feeling excited about what they are capable of learning next.
