Why We Recommend Jaimes for Music Lessons

Alberto Jaimes is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, performer, and recording professional with a musical background spanning guitar, voice, bass, keyboards, drums, flute, saxophone, ukulele, and mandolin. He began his musical journey at age eight and has continued developing his musicianship through decades of performance, theory, composition, improvisation, and recording experience.

His strongest instruments are guitar, voice, and bass, with additional experience on keyboards. Jaimes is comfortable teaching
guitar,
voice, bass, and keyboard, working with everyone from first-time beginners to experienced young musicians looking for a new challenge.

Alberto believes students gain confidence when they can make recognizable music early in the learning process. Instead of waiting until a student has mastered every technical exercise before learning songs, he likes to introduce approachable, familiar music and build technique around the experience of actually playing.

A Lifelong Multi-Instrumentalist

Alberto began playing flute at age eight in 1988 before moving to piano at age nine. He added bass at age ten, drums at eleven, saxophone at twelve, guitar at thirteen, and vocals at fourteen.

By his teenage years, guitar and voice had become central parts of his musical development, and he continued focusing heavily on both through high school and beyond.

Exploring so many instruments gave Alberto a broad understanding of how different parts of music work together. A guitarist may approach a song differently from a bassist, drummer, keyboard player, or singer, and Alberto can use those different perspectives to help students understand the larger musical picture.

From Music Performance to Recording & Production

Alberto eventually took his musical experience to Los Angeles, where he studied the recording and mixing process for songs and albums.

Working with musicians in a recording environment gave him another perspective on performance. Recording requires musicians to listen carefully to timing, tone, dynamics, arrangement, and the way each instrument fits into a complete song.

That experience complements his teaching because students can learn not only how to play their individual part, but also how that part contributes to the music as a whole.

Music Training & Education

From 1988 through 1998, Alberto participated in the Merit Music Program, developing his musicianship across multiple instruments and areas of study.

His training included advanced work in:

  • Music Theory
  • Orchestration
  • Composition
  • Performance
  • Improvisation
  • Sight Reading

This combination of theoretical knowledge and practical performance experience allows Alberto to explain not only what a student should play, but also why the music works the way it does.

Building Confidence Through Real Songs

One of Alberto’s favorite ways to introduce a student to an instrument is through a simple, recognizable song. For a beginning guitarist, that might mean starting with an approachable riff such as “Seven Nation Army” so the student can experience the feeling of playing real music early on.

From there, Alberto incorporates exercises designed to improve mobility, agility, speed, coordination, and strength while continuing to introduce music the student can enjoy.

Students may explore blues, country, classic rock, pop, and other styles through music associated with artists such as The Beatles, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Freddie Mercury, and Jimi Hendrix, along with songs selected around the student’s own interests.

Alberto especially enjoys helping students work toward songs they once assumed would be too difficult for them to play. Those challenges can become powerful opportunities for students to recognize how much progress they have made.

Interactive & Practical Music Lessons

Alberto uses a variety of learning tools to keep lessons active and practical. Depending on the student, lessons may incorporate videos, worksheets, technique exercises, familiar songs, and instrument-free backing tracks that allow the student to practice playing their part along with the rest of the music.

This approach helps bridge the gap between practicing an isolated exercise and experiencing what it feels like to participate in a complete song.

His lessons can be adapted for beginners from approximately age eight through adulthood, intermediate students from age ten through adulthood, and more advanced younger musicians who are ready for challenging material.

Making Music More Accessible

One of Alberto’s long-term passions is expanding opportunities for people with disabilities to experience music-making.

He believes the benefits of music should be accessible to more people and hopes to continue developing ways to adapt musical learning around different abilities and individual needs.

At the center of his teaching is a simple goal: help more people experience the confidence, creativity, enjoyment, and connection that can come from learning to make music.
