Jacob Lovell is a guitarist, pianist, performer, and music teacher who believes students should experience the excitement of making real music from the very beginning.

He began teaching himself piano at age 14 and guitar at age 16, eventually developing guitar as his primary instrument and piano as his secondary instrument. His experience as both a self-directed learner and formally trained musician gives him a useful perspective on the challenges students face when beginning an instrument.

Jacob especially enjoys working with middle school students, high school students, and adults. His goal is to help each student develop a genuine love for music, discover their individual sound, and build the skills needed to cultivate that sound over time.

Making Music from the First Lesson

Jacob believes students should not have to wait months before music starts feeling like music. While fundamentals are essential, he combines necessary technical information with real songs, riffs, and musical examples students can begin using immediately.

This allows students to experience an early sense of accomplishment while gradually building the technique and knowledge they will need for more advanced playing.

For Jacob, those early wins are important. When students can hear themselves making recognizable music, practice begins to feel connected to a larger purpose.

Education & Musical Training

Jacob studied at
Liberty University,
where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Apologetics with minors in Music and Biblical Languages.

Through the
Liberty University School of Music,
he received formal training that supported his development as both a guitarist and pianist.

Jacob has also studied jazz extensively, giving him a deeper understanding of harmony, improvisation, ensemble playing, and musical communication.

Live Performance Experience

While at Liberty University, Jacob performed guitar in recitals and was a member of the university’s Jazz Guitar Ensemble.

He also served as lead guitarist for the Liberty University band The Banana Royales, performing at university events and other live engagements. His performance experience includes playing at major campus events as well as gigs in Lynchburg and Raleigh.

These experiences allow Jacob to offer students practical advice about performing, rehearsing, collaborating with other musicians, managing nerves, and developing confidence on stage.

Helping Students Find Their Sound

Jacob’s goal is not to make every student sound the same. Instead, he wants students to develop the skills necessary to discover what they personally enjoy about music and begin shaping their own musical identity.
