Why We Recommend Jesse for Guitar Lessons in Bellingham
Jesse Lonchar is an experienced guitarist, bassist, performer, and music mentor with more than 22 years of guitar experience and 14 years of bass experience. He first picked up the guitar at age eight and quickly developed a passion for rock music, songwriting, and performing with bands.
Much of Jesse’s musical development came through self-directed learning, listening closely to recordings, learning by ear, and using tablature. That background gives him a practical perspective on what helps students become confident, independent players.
He especially enjoys working with students who are curious, dedicated, and willing to push beyond what they already know. His lessons encourage students to explore new techniques, expand their musical taste, and continue improving without losing the excitement that made them want to play in the first place.
Areas of Expertise & Teaching Focus
- Guitar Lessons: Technique, chords, riffs, songwriting, tablature, and building confidence as a player.
- Bass Guitar: Rhythm, groove, technique, and understanding the role of bass within a band.
- Rock & Contemporary Styles: Drawing from years of performance experience in multiple bands.
- Learning by Ear: Helping students strengthen listening skills and become more independent musicians.
- Instrument Knowledge: Teaching students about guitar anatomy, mechanics, maintenance, and proper handling.
- Songwriting & Creativity: Encouraging students to develop original ideas and explore their own musical voice.
Teaching Philosophy
Jesse believes musical ability is something that can be developed through practice, curiosity, and persistence. Rather than treating talent as something a person is simply born with, he helps students understand that improvement comes from consistent effort and a willingness to keep learning.
He also emphasizes understanding the instrument itself. Knowing how a guitar is built, how it responds, and how to handle it properly gives students a stronger foundation for developing better technique and becoming more confident players.
Education & Bellingham Music Community
Jesse earned a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Political Science from Western Washington University.
He has also been connected to Bellingham’s local music community through organizations, studios, venues, and arts spaces including Champion Street Sound Studios, The Shakedown, and Make.Shift Art Space.
